Should I Elope?

To elope of not to elope? That is the question!

Elopements and small weddings have been on the rise this year, especially with the mandates in place on the number of people gathered inside a venue (remember let’s #stopthespread!) 2020 has been the year of pivoting–in all ways in our lives! There are many reasons to elope, and today I want to share a few reasons with you!

An elopement once meant running to Vegas or California and getting married by an Elvis impersonator (sounds fun, but not my kind of thing!)

Modern-day elopements are more like intimate weddings with no guests planned to provide so much fun and enjoyment and allow them to focus on what’s most important.

A Large Wedding Isn’t Your Thing

Many love and enjoy the formality of a big day and the marriage, of course, and others do not want all of that spotlight on them and want something small and intimate. Many couples feel that a big wedding is not for them and instead for everyone else and want to enjoy their big day more intimately.

Weddings are Expensive

Venues, wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, tuxedos, decorations, catering, (I could go on and on) can add up to be a big hefty bill. Many couples do not want to spend a large amount of money on their wedding, and coupled with enjoying a more intimate moment with each other; the elopement suits them better.

Eloping Shifts Focus

Instead of spending a large amount of money on a big wedding, many adventurous couples take that money. They plan to elope in extraordinary places such as Yosemite Mountain State Park or Colorado’s mountains. Shifting your focus and resources for your eloping will allow you to purchase that gorgeous gown you’ve been eyeing or hiring me (*smile*) to capture some of the best pictures of your life.

Easier Planning

Logistics with planning an elopement are easier than planning a big celebration or even a destination wedding. Before y0ou plan to elope in another country, be sure to do your research on all things legal to ensure you are covered. Let’s find a beautiful location surrounded by plenty of mountains and overlooks, say your vows, have an epic time capturing great photos to hang on your home’s walls, and have a great time!

Last but not least, eloping does not fit everyone. Don’t elope because everyone else is eloping, and it is the cool thing to do right now. Again, your marriage’s foundation is most important, and we will always keep that at the forefront.

Make intentional choices that suit you and your significant other well, and I will be there supporting your every step of the way! I hope that this helps you and your significant other decide if you should have an elopement or a wedding!

About Nancy

I have a beautiful privilege on your big day and it's a privilege I do not take lightly. Photography has given me the unique opportunity to create, grow and sustain a relationship with my couples. I have the beautiful privilege of being the extra bridesmaid, encouraging smile and memory preservationist on one of the most magical days of my couple's lives throughout Arkansas and Dallas, TX  and beyond. I love to capture blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments and turn them into family heirlooms. And with an eye for detail, I don't just preserve the best day of your life.. I turn it into art.
